Aledo is a small rural village located in the province of Murcia, between Murcia City and Lorca in Southeast Spain. It is a quiet village of medieval character set high up on a rocky plateau overlooking the Guadalentín Valley in the Sierra Espuña Natural Park - a truly heavenly place in which to own rural Spanish property.
The village has a great deal of history attached to it and is famous as the location from which King Alphonse X dispatched his law proclamations. Today, Aledo's castle is the most striking reminder of Aledo's past, perched as it is on the edge of the plateau above a deep ravine, although the ceramic and pottery for which Aledo is now best known provides a glimpse into the past too.
Aledo, as small as it is, does not lack in the facilities needed for a comfortable lifestyle. In the village there are two supermarkets, two banks, and a small number of bars and restaurants offering a taste of traditional Spain. One of the restaurants is in fact within a beautiful restored monastery just 5-minutes from the centre of the village. In nearby Totana on the main Murcia to Almeria highway is a wider selection of restaurants and shops.
If you've ever wanted to realise your dream of living in a villa in Spain in the mountains then Spanish property in Aledo could be for you. It is only 15 minutes by car to the nearest town and main highway, yet Aledo offers true peace and tranquillity in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Aledo property in the village mainly consists of villas and small apartment-style buildings. On the outskirts of the village Aledo property includes some detached homes, some of which are in need of renovation.
