The modern Spanish city of Algeciras stands on the western side of the Bay of Algeciras, directly opposite the Rock of Gibraltar in Southern Spain. Known as the 'Gateway to Africa', the city serves as the main ferry crossing point to Tangiers in Northern Morocco. Algeciras is also home to a busy commercial seaport and is a centre of industry and commerce, so presenting a good opportunity to investors to develop commercial Spanish property in the area.
Algeciras was once a thriving tourist resort. Today, tourists still visit the area but unlike other locations around the Southern tip of Spain there is no purposeful drive by the local authorities to attract tourists like there is in places such as Marbella or Soto Grande. Most Spanish property for sale in the area serves the local community who have historically lived in the city, and also provides accommodation for those who move into the city for work. If you are looking for an idyllic location in Cadiz province to buy your dream villa in Spain, then the city of Algeciras is unlikely to be the place.
Close by though, there are some wonderful alternatives to Algeciras property. Further to the south-west, right on the tip of Spain, is the breathtaking resort and town of Tarifa. To the north-east is San Roque and its magnificent golf courses. La Linea - the Spanish border town with Gibraltar - offers yet more options to buyers who are looking for Algeciras property.
