The region of Alicante is located on the Costa Blanca in Southeastern Spain. Alicante
province extends from Denia in the north of the region down to Oriola in the south.
Along the coast, the city of Alicante occupies a prime location, wedged between
Benidorm and Torrevella, and is an excellent area in which to buy in Spanish
property.
The climate in Alicante is exceptional all year round. On average the region basks in
over 300 days of sunshine each year, with summertime temperatures regularly
reaching up beyond 30°c. Summers are often long, starting as early as April and
extending right through until September. During the relatively short winter, the
climate remains pleasant with daytime temperatures often in the 15°c - 20°c range.
One of Alicante's biggest draws is its fantastic beaches. Clean golden sands extend
along the shoreline for miles, abbreviated occasionally by rocky headlands that lead
into isolated coves. There is also a selection of nudist beaches in the area, ensuring
that all tastes are catered for. All of the beaches in the Alicante region are proud to fly
the blue EU flag, which is consistently awarded to them year after year, guaranteeing
visitors a great seaside experience.
The city of Alicante itself is an impressive blend of modern facilities and historical
attractions. Overlooked by the imposing Santa Barbara Castle, perched high upon the
mountainside, Alicante offers shops, restaurants, bars and cafes around its pleasant
city streets, while the boulevard and harbour give the city an unmistakably Spanish
feel. Alicante is also a very cultural city. There are festivities in the town every month
of the year - July and August being the annual highlight when Alicante's summer
festival is in full swing.
For Alicante property hunters, this region offers a wealth of opportunity. Villas,
townhouses and apartments are available in and around the city, as well as in the
surrounding towns, resorts and developments along the Costa Blanca. Popular
locations in which to buy Spanish property outside of the city include the town of
Denia on the Cap de la Nau. Denia is a popular area for property investors as it enjoys
stunning scenery, beautiful beaches and a large expat community. Calpe, Altea, El
Campello and Torrevella are also excellent locations in which to look for Alicante
property along the coast, whilst inland the town of Villena offers something
completely different, with its barren mountainscapes and peaceful ambience.
Just as when buying a villa in Spain in any other region, property buyers should
allocate between 8% to 10% of the purchase price to cover additional fees such as
legal expenses, notary costs and taxes.
