The popular tourist resort of Altea is situated in a spectacular bay midway between
Benidorm and Calpe on the Costa Blanca. The town is a classical Mediterranean
jumble of whitewashed buildings and narrow streets, and stands in complete contrast
to the high-rises of Benidorm. For those who are looking for a traditional
Mediterranean town in which to buy Spanish property on the Costa Blanca, then Altea
should surely top the list.
Altea's five sandy beaches are one of the area's biggest attractions. Playa la Roda
Beach is the most frequented by residents and tourists, and possesses the coveted EU
Blue Flag for cleanliness. However, if you are looking for a quieter beach the Playa
del Cap Negret is recommended.
In Altea town itself, restaurants, bars and many quaint Mediterranean shops await
around the narrow streets. Some elaborate architecture can be found around the town
too - the Church of Virgen del Consuleo being one example.
Traditional Spain on the Costa Blanca does come at a price. Altea property is
exclusive and carries a premier price tag to match. Luxurious 3-bed apartments with
sea views in some of the new Spanish property developments are available for around
€300,000 euros. A 4-bedroomed villa in Spain with sea view from Altea could cost
around €500,000 euros.
Just as when buying property in other areas of Spain, Altea property buyers should
allocate funds in the region of 8% to 10% of the property value to cover legal fees,
notary fees and taxes. New property is also subject to VAT.
