Antequera is a medieval Andalucian town located on an upland plain in the Cordillera Penibetica mountain range. It is only a half-hour drive from Malaga on the Costa del Sol and has become a very popular area in which to buy Spanish property.
The town has a population of c.40,000 and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, much of which is used for agriculture. During the summer, sunflowers colonise the fields - a spectacular sight when set against the whitewashed houses of the town.
Antequera is essentially a busy market town. Many of the buildings date back several centuries, and there is even evidence of Bronze Age life in the area too. Yet, Antequera has moved with the time, while preserving its past. Today, modern shopping facilities, restaurants and cafes can be found alongside the more established buildings. On the outskirts of Antequera there is even a large modern hospital.
Antequera property for sale in the town itself consists of whitewashed town houses and villas, some of which are ready to move into and some that require renovation. On the whole, Antequera property offers exceptional value for money. A three-bed villa in Spain renovation project in the town is likely to cost less than €120,000 euros to purchase. For investors, this represents a good opportunity as the Costa del Sol has many years of growth in front of it, so Spanish property in Antequera is only going to increase in value over the foreseeable future.
