Archidona
Archidona is a small Andalucian town set upon a hillside and plateau near the main Antequera to Granada road in Southern Spain. Easily identified by the lone white building - the town's 9th century hermitage - that stands high up on the hill above the town, Archidona is becoming an increasingly popular location in which to buy Spanish property.
The town itself is divided into two areas - an upper area which stretches across the hillside towards the hermitage, and a lower area on a fairly level plateau. No matter where you are in the town, the views across the surrounding countryside are awe-inspiring. Small hamlets and villages can be seen to peak out through the green meadows and olive groves that are so prevalent in the area.
Archidona has a good complement of shops, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues. It is essentially a quiet town, except during the month of May when dog lovers from across Europe and beyond descend on Archidona for its dog festival. For tourists, whether they're dog lovers or not, the wonderful Plaza Ochavada and its whitewashed buildings are just one of the many architectural attractions available to view in Archidona.
Archidona property around the town is typically Spanish, being of a simple whitewashed design and supporting small wrought iron balconies. Townhouses, semi-detached Archidona property, apartments and villas make up the majority of Spanish property available here. On the outskirts of town, buyers may find suitable plots of land on which to build that dream villa in Spain.
