Burgos is the most northerly province of the Castilla y Leon region in Central Northern Spain. It is a land of overwhelming beauty. Vast expanses of green interplay with arid plains and towering mountainscapes, while deep chasms and dramatic waterfalls vie for attention among woods and forested valleys. And then there's the network of cathedrals, castles and monasteries in the many towns and villages scattered across the area, all of which define the region's importance in times gone by. If you are looking for Spanish property that is surrounded by Nature's best, then Burgos could be the place for you.
Centrally located in the province of Burgos is its capital city of the same name. Burgos City is packed full of Gothic architecture - the 13th century cathedral being the Gothic centrepiece in the city. The cathedral is also the final resting place of the famous Spanish knight - El Cid - who fought the Moors.
Burgos City mixes the ancient and modern in perfect harmony. Narrow streets of pastel coloured renaissance style houses give way to modern office buildings and new Spanish property developments in other areas of the city. Shopping, entertainment and leisure are all well catered for in and around the city, while Burgos lays claim to some of the best restaurants in Northern Spain.
In the surrounding rural areas Burgos property is relatively inexpensive. Recently, a 4-bed villa in Spain only 8kms outside the city was available for as little as €280,000 euros, while a derelict farmhouse on 30,000m2 of land could have been yours for €60,000 euros. What makes rural Burgos property even more appealing though is the low cost of renovation. Labour and materials are both very cheap in this area, especially when compared to coastal locations such as the Costa Brava or Costa del Sol.
