Located down to the south-west of mainland Spain, the Canary Islands have long been
recognised as a great place in which to buy Spanish property. All year round warmth,
easy access to sandy beaches and the unique attraction of island life have bought
tourists and property hunters to the shores of the seven islands which make up the
Canary group for many years.
All of the Canary Islands are volcanic in origin. The most western island in the
archipelago, and one of the smallest, is El Hierro. The islands of La Palma, Gomera,
Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote make up the remaining six.
Lanzarote is the easternmost island of the group, and generally has the best weather.
Reminders of the Canary Islands' volcanic past is visible on every island, from the
infamous black sands on Tenerife to Lanzarote's stunning lava flows.
Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura are arguably the most popular
islands with tourists. Each island offers its own unique atmosphere to visitors, and all
provide some of the most wonderful beaches in Europe. Fuerteventura alone has no
fewer than 150 beaches around its craggy coastline.
On all of the islands, there is a mix of traditional towns and holiday resorts - some of
which cater for package holiday tourists. Canary Islands property available to
investors ranges from relatively inexpensive one-bed apartments in the popular tourist
complexes on Tenerife, to the exclusive villa in Spain type properties amongst the
volcanic national parks on Tenerife and Fuerteventura.
The Spanish property market is very strong in the Canary Islands. Canary Islands
property should provide owners with a handsome return on their investment within
the next five to ten years, as well as the potential to earn a good level of income
through rental agreements in the meantime.
