Situated just off the main route from Seville to Cordoba in Andalucia is the ancient town of Carmona. A "mini-Seville" in some ways, the town of Carmona is a national treasure that unfurls some magnificent examples of Roman, Gothic and Renaissance style architecture along its narrow winding streets. It is a wonderful place in which to own Spanish property, and serves up some of the hottest weather in Spain.
The site on which Carmona is built is known to have been home to Neolithic humans many thousands of years ago. It was the Romans though that began development in the town - the nearby Roman necropolis containing nearly 1,000 tombs being the most prominent reminder of this era. The Moors certainly left their mark on Carmona too with their stunning 'Seville Gate' - an enormous Moorish double arch that stands opposite St. Peter's Church.
Today, Carmona offers a taste of traditional Andalucia within its boundaries. Whitewashed buildings, which are so characteristic of many Andalucian towns and villages, line Carmona's narrow winding streets. In Plaza San Fernando, 17th century Spanish property encircle the area, complimenting the Renaissance style mansions that can be found a little way from the square.
If a mansion in the town does not interest you, then you might be tempted by some of the Moorish style apartments and townhouses that can be found around Carmona, or some of the newer Carmona property constructed to house the town's burgeoning population. Outside the town, there are many opportunities to purchase rural Carmona property. Prices for a luxury 3-bed villa in Spain in the countryside here start at around €200,000 euros.
