Cartama is one of the seven white villages in the Guadalhorce Valley on the Costa del Sol. Typical of the Andalucian hillside villages found throughout Southern Spain, Cartama is a mass of white buildings set upon a hillside that is adorned with pines, olive trees and orange groves. If you're looking for a tranquil area in which to buy Spanish property on the Costa del Sol, then Cartama should be at the top of your list.
Founded by the Phoenicians, Cartama has a long and chequered history. Its dominant position overlooking the Guadalhorce River has put it at the centre of many a conflict. For the Romans and the Moors who followed, Cartama was an important fortified lookout post.
At most points around Cartama, views across the Guadalhorce Valley are nothing short of spectacular. The village may be considered to be a little more 'spread out' than some of its white village neighbours, as it has two village squares - one in a part of the village called Cartama Pueblo and the other in the area known as Cartama Estación. Cartama is also the biggest and most populous village in the Guadalhorce Valley.
In the village, whitewashed townhouses and apartments with their wrought iron jewellery make up the majority of Cartama property available to prospective purchasers. As well as making for a superb location for personal holidays or retirement, Cartama also offers investors a great opportunity in the rental market, being only a 15-minute drive away from the Costa del Sol coastline and the resort of Torremolinos. All year round income from a Cartama property investment could be realised in this village. On the pine-covered hillsides surrounding the village, Spanish property hunters may also find suitable plots of land on which they can site their dream villa in Spain.
