Situated along the spectacular southeastern coastline of Spain, the Costa Blanca has
long been a favoured area in which to buy Spanish property. The region is renowned
for its outstanding natural beauty, all-year-round warm climate, and for the pure white
sands that line its beaches - many of which proudly display the blue EU flag for
cleanliness. Recently, the World Health Organisation (WHO) proclaimed the Costa
Blanca to be one of the healthiest places to live in the world!
The Costa Blanca shoreline stretches from the Cap de la Nau in the North, where the
eastern end of the Cordillera Penibetica mountain range descends down to the
Mediterranean Sea, to the flat plains in the South that extend inland at Cabo de Palos.
Alicante, the region's capital city, is at the mid-point along the Costa. It is host to a
delightful mix of ancient architecture and modern facilities, including castles, a 16th
century monastery, a modern harbour and popular shopping centres. It is also home to
the region's only international airport, providing links to popular resort destinations
such as Benidorm, Torrevella and Denia.
Buying Costa Blanca property requires careful preparation and research. It is
important to understand that the region is very popular during the summer months,
especially with Northern Europeans. The beaches become crowded, as do the towns,
cities and major attractions. If you are buying Costa Blanca property as an investment
to let to tourists, then this is good news for you. However, if you intend to live on the
Costa Blanca all year round, then it may just be something that you'll need to think
about.
Knowing what you can afford is of course crucial too. As well as the purchase price
of your Spanish property you will need to consider legal & notary fees, plus taxes,
which can amount to as much as 8% of the property price. Costa Blanca is becoming
a highly sough-after area, and so demand for properties is currently very high. Coastal
properties are set to rise in value by between 15% - 18% this coming year, so you'll
need to move fast if you want to snap up a villa in Spain, and reap the full benefits of
your investment.
There are approximately 1.5 million non-Spaniards who currently own Spanish
property in the Costa Blanca, 750,000 of them who are British. English is widely
spoken, alongside Spanish and German, and you will certainly receive a warm and
friendly reception from the locals too. If there was ever proof needed that buying
property in Costa Blanca is worth every penny that you spend, then this it!
