The province of Cuenca is situated in Central Spain in the Northeast sector of Castilla La Mancha. It is one of the most visually stunning areas in Spain, and has much to offer prospective buyers of rural Spanish property. The landscape within the province changes dramatically, and takes in some amazing rock formations in the Serrania de Cuenca mountain range, as well as rolling hills, mountain valleys and flat plains across the south-west of the region. There are many historic villages too along with numerous medieval castles and other architecturally impressive buildings.
The city of Cuenca, from which the province takes its name, is perched high upon a foothill of the Serrania de Cuenca mountains. Affectionately known as The Eagle's Nest because of this lofty position, the town is most famous for its row of 15th century hanging houses, which seem to precariously teeter above a deep gorge. One of the hanging houses is in fact a museum with balconies overhanging the gorge. Here, you can step out and get your own unique view of the gorge and surrounding countryside below.
The rest of Cuenca City is divided into two distinct areas. There is the old part of town where medieval buildings and gothic structures provide several points of interest for tourists, and there is the new town area which consists mainly of modern city amenities, commercial premises and residential areas.
Cuenca property available for sale is very varied throughout the province. In the city, there are opportunities (rare opportunities) to purchase historic Spanish property in the old part of town, as well as apartments, penthouses and luxury villas in the more modern parts of the city. Rural Cuenca property outside Cuenca City is less expensive. Some of the most idyllic areas in which to buy a rural villa in Spain can be found alongside the Jucar River.
