Situated just off the main Seville to Cordoba highway in Southern Spain is the historical town of Ecija. It is located on a lowland plain and is surrounded by low-lying hills close to the river Genil - a tributary that flows into the Guadalquivir River to the north. If you like hot weather then Ecija is the place to buy Spanish property. Each summer the temperature regularly climbs to 40°c here, and can sometimes rise as high as 45°c. Living in Ecija during the summer months means that air conditioning in your Ecija property is an essential, not a luxury!
The town itself offers a real taste of Andalucian Spain. The first thing you notice when approaching Ecija is its numerous towers that protrude up into the sky amongst a mass of white and ochre. Many of the towers are bell towers attached to several churches populating the town - two of the most spectacular being Iglesia de San Juan Bautista and Santa Maira Church. In between these wonderful examples of Baroque architecture are tall whitewashed buildings lining narrow winding streets. Many of the buildings here, especially those around Ecija's centre, have arched facades and some have beautiful rows of recessed arched balconies.
Ecija has a modern side too. There are shops, bars and some fine restaurants offering authentic Spanish dishes. The town is also well geared towards tourism, with hotels and self-catering Ecija property in high demand. On the outskirts of town, new Spanish property developments are in the process of construction, offering prospective buyers a great opportunity to own a villa in Spain here.
