Formentera is the smallest island in the Balearics island group. It is located due south of Ibiza and does not have an airport, access to the island being by ferry only. As close as it is to Ibiza, Formentera's ambience is completely different to that found on Ibiza. There are no packed out nightclubs, wild party nights or lines of English-style pubs. Instead, wild scenery, coastal paths and sandy beaches invite you to explore the island's natural beauty. For those looking to buy Spanish property in the Balearics, Formentera offers peace and tranquillity amongst a resident population that is only just equivalent to that of a small village!
The interior of the island is relatively flat, enabling a view of the sea from almost every location on the island. Its highest point is in the South East near Punta des Far. Here, the Mola viewpoint at 193 metres above sea level offers a stunning overview of the island, as well as a view of the Ibiza shoreline to the north.
Formentera is peppered with small sparsely populated towns. Most consist of whitewashed buildings and narrow streets. San Fernando, one of the largest towns, is surrounded by a pine wood.
Formentera property is rather exclusive. Es Pujol on the northern coast offers a good range of Spanish property, including apartments and old country houses. The town also has access to some of the best beaches on the island, making it a great place in which to buy that beachfront villa in Spain. If you are looking for rental property, La Sabina, located a short distance from Es Pujol, is a popular area in which to make a Formentera property investment.
