Galicia is a beautiful region of north-west Spain, sandwiched in between the Atlantic
coast and the Bay of Biscay. Largely undiscovered by foreigners, it is very
picturesque and mostly unspoilt. It also offers some of the cheapest Spanish property
in the country.
Mountains, lush valleys and the most dramatic piece of coastline you are likely to find
in Spain can be found in the four districts which make up the region. The district of
Orense is by far the most mountainous with peaks reaching up to 1800m. Pontevedra,
La Coruna and Lugo all edge down from the mountains to the craggy coastline with
its numerous fishing villages and Celtic history.
English is not yet widely spoken in this region, and so may present a challenge to
some buyers looking to purchase Galicia property. The prices of Galicia property
however are very competitive, being 100% cheaper than in Catalonia and 125 %
cheaper than Spanish property in Madrid. This alone may be worth an investment in a
few Spanish lessons! For those investors who are looking to build their own villa in
Spain, Galicia represents a great opportunity too. Land and construction costs are very
low in the region, making it one of the cheapest places in Spain to build.
