The coastal city of Gijon is located on the Costa Verde in Northern Spain. It is essentially a modern and vibrant city where there is always something going on, whether it be cultural festivals, national shows, or local entertainment. Home to nearly 300,000 inhabitants, Gijon has a strong identity all of its own, and is a wonderful city location in which to buy Spanish property.
Aside from being a centre of trade and commerce in the Asturias region, Gijon is a major tourist resort too. Its main attraction is the golden sands of Lorenzo Beach and its 3-mile long promenade. This is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region, and contrasts dramatically with the rocky coastline around the Cabo de Penas a few miles further to the west.
Gijon has excellent shopping facilities, mainly concentrated around Corrida Street near the city centre. There is also some wonderful cuisine on offer in the many restaurants and bars around the city and in the neighbouring towns and fishing villages along the coast.
Gijon property in the city itself is very diverse. Luxury apartments and villas close to the waterfront and harbour are most in demand, while the city offers plenty of opportunity to purchase Spanish property in need of renovation. There are also new Gijon property developments offering hi-spec accommodation in various parts of the city, but more noticeably along the beachfront. In the more rural areas around Gijon land plots are available on which that dream villa in Spain could be built.
