Situated on an elevated plateau in the province of Alicante is the traditional Spanish town of Ibi. The town covers an area of 61km2, and at some 800 metres above sea level offers commanding views of the surrounding countryside and mountains. As isolated as Ibi may seem it is only a 40-minute drive from the golden beaches of the Costa Blanca and is within an hour of Alicante. This makes Ibi an attractive option for Spanish property buyers who are looking for a rural mountain location that is not too far away from the sea.
Ibi is a diverse town where centuries-old architecture rubs shoulders with modern day developments. Located in the most historic part of the town, in an area known as "the Costeretas", is Ibi's most celebrated building - The Hermitage of Santa Lucia. Spread out below the hermitage is a tangle of narrow streets around which old townhouses preside. The rest of the town is made up of typical Mediterranean buildings, some with whitewashed exteriors and many with red-tiled roofs. Ibi property in the town also includes some modern apartment blocks and hotels.
The climate in Ibi is rather more extreme than down on the Costa Blanca coastline. Summertime temperatures can hit 40°c, while during the winter it is not unusual for the temperature to dip down to around 5°c. Still, Ibi proudly boasts near on 300 days of sunshine each year, making it a great place in which to buy a villa in Spain.
Outside the town, isolated Ibi property can be found in the hillsides, while the larger nearby town of Alcoi offers a more extensive range of high-altitude Spanish property on the Costa Blanca.
