The small village of Istan is located in the Istan Valley that leads down from the Ronda mountains to Puerto Banus on the Costa del Sol, Southern Spain. Home to under 2,000 people, Istan is an excellent location in which to buy Spanish property for those who want the tranquillity of the Spanish countryside, yet wish to remain within easy reach of the coastal resorts along the Costa de Sol.
Istan, by all appearances, is a typical Andalucian village. It consists of gleaming whitewashed buildings set around a network of narrow cobbled streets. Many of the buildings have Moorish style arches incorporated into their exterior décor, while others are decorated with black wrought iron window bars and balconies.
Istan's geographical situation is a rather privileged one. It sits at the head of a reservoir that was created in 1972 to supply fresh water to the towns and villages along the Costa del Sol coastline. The views from Istan across the water are spectacular, and when viewed from the southern end of the reservoir, Istan itself is an incredible sight against the backdrop of mountains behind it.
By all accounts, Istan is an exclusive area in which to buy Spanish property. Istan property sales cater very much to the luxury end of the market, with apartments and villas looking out across the reservoir costing upwards of €750,000 euros. There are also some new Istan property developments in the process of construction. Most are of a high quality and offer 24-hour guard service within a gated community. On the hillside around Istan, buyers will also find plots of land on which that luxury villa in Spain could be built.
