Located in the rolling foothills at the western end of the Cordillera Penibetica mountain range in Southern Spain is the traditional Spanish town of Jimena de la Frontera. Its whitewashed buildings and red-tiled roofs are typical of an Andalucian hill town, and provide property hunters with the opportunity to own traditional Spanish property that is far-removed from the large hotel complexes and high rises found on the nearby Costa del Sol coastline.
Jimena de la Frontera is some 25kms north of Gibraltar, and has become a favourite town in recent years for British residents to settle in. Its streets are narrow and winding, many of them cobbled and fairly steep in places. The town has a long and illustrious history too - its castle and Roman architecture being the most visible symbols of Jimena's past.
The view from the town, and more so from the castle, is awesome. Rolling hills descending down towards the coast are pierced by occasional settlements of white houses. Jimena really is an idyllic place in which to purchase a villa in Spain.
Jimena property in the town consists of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses, along with apartments and open plan studios. Many have been restored, but there is still some Jimena property available in need of renovation. Outside the town in the surrounding hills you will find a mix of Spanish property, from exquisite villas to quiet farmhouses in need of modernisation.
