On the Cantabrian Coast, midway between Santander and Bilbao is one of Northern Spain's most popular tourist resorts - Laredo. Different from many of the other towns and villages that line the North Coast, Laredo is fully geared towards tourism and so offers some great opportunities for Spanish property investors who are looking for a villa in Spain to cater for Laredo's rental market.
Laredo's main attraction is its enormous unbroken 5km stretch of sandy beach that arcs around the main bay. The resort also has a further 2kms of beach near the Treto estuary, much of which is designated as a nudist beach. The spectacular mountains that rise up around the bay offer Laredo a fair amount of shelter, so helping the resort to feel warmer than many surrounding areas.
Around the bay there are many modern apartments and villas that drop down to the shoreline, the highest concentration of buildings being directly below Mount La Atalya. Either side of this nucleus, shoreline buildings thin out considerably providing more privacy on the beach below.
Compared with coastal areas in Southern Spain, Laredo property prices offer exceptional value for money. Whereas a two-bed apartment overlooking the sea in Fuengirola near Marbella may cost in the region of €200,000 euros, a similar Laredo property with sea views will cost around €140,000 euros. Spanish property in the more rural areas outside Laredo is even more keenly priced.
