Located on the western shore of the Mar Menor - Europe's largest saltwater lagoon - is the resort town of Los Alcazares. It is a popular tourist destination on the southern Costa Blanca, and has grown substantially since its days as a small fishing village. Close to the airport and on the opposite side of the Mar Menor to the La Manga strip, Los Alcazares is now a much sought after location in which to own Spanish property, either as a second home or as an income property.
Los Alcazares has seven beaches along its lagoon shoreline. All are of fine white sand and are backed by a fine-looking promenade lined with palm trees. There are several restaurants and bars along the beachfront, and all of the beaches have an array of services that you would expect on a top-class Spanish beach.
The area offers a great number of sports and leisure activities too. Golfers are well catered for with 10 golf courses that are all within easy reach of Los Alcazares, including three in La Manga. The Mar Menor provides endless opportunities to enjoy water sports as diverse as jetskiing and windsurfing.
Los Alcazares property is very varied, ranging from apartments and villas on the nearby golf course, to penthouses and duplex-type properties in the centre of town. Los Alcazares property prices are reasonable - a two-bed semi-detached villa in Spain can cost as little as €150,000 euros. However, prices are forecast to rise over the next few years, providing a good investment return for those who buy Spanish property in the area now.
