Situated on the southeast coast of Spain in the province of Murcia is Mar Menor -
Europe's largest saltwater lagoon. It is a highly desirable area in which to purchase
Spanish property, not least so because of the variety of water sport activities that are
accessible in the lagoon and on the Mediterranean coast.
The most famous resort location on the Mar Menor is the La Manga resort. La Manga
is located on a 28km-long spit of land that separates the lagoon from the sea. It is
home to three world-class golf courses, Europe's #1 tennis centre and a whole host of
sports and leisure facilities, and is a highly sought after area in which to buy a villa in
Spain. The La Manga strip has a unique advantage over other locations around Mar
Menor in that it has use of two coastlines - one along the Mar Menor and the other
along the Mediterranean. Quality restaurants, bars and casinos can be found along the
strip, providing a huge variety of entertainment for visitors and residents alike.
San Javier, Los Nietos and Cabo de Palos, located around the land ward side of the
Mar Menor are also great locations in which to buy Mar Menor property. Luxury
villas, apartments and chalets are all available, and make for a very special holiday
home or permanent residence in the region.
Mar Menor property prices vary greatly from one part of the Mar Menor to the other.
From an investment perspective though, no matter which part of the Mar Menor you
choose, all Spanish property in the region has the potential to generate a large capital
return within the next five to ten years.
