Moguer is a historic town in the province of Huelva on the Costa de la Luz. No more than 20kms from the city of Huelva it is situated on the bank of the Tinto River a little inland from the coast and is a quiet location in which to buy Spanish property, far away from the influences of mass tourism.
Essentially a town of traditional white Andalucian buildings, Moguer is home to some 16,000 people and combines many modern facilities with its old town charm. Baroque and Gothic-style houses predominate in the historic quarter of Moguer. They are often adorned with brightly coloured flowers and show off wrought iron balconies that overhang into the narrow streets below.
Moguer is one of three towns that have strong ties with Christopher Columbus and his voyage to the New World. In the town the Gothic-Mudejar Convent de Santa Clara was used as the blueprint for the construction of missions in the New World by Columbus. Other towns with a strong Columbus connection are close by, these being La Ribida and Palos de la Frontera. The city of Huelva also has many monuments celebrating this great adventurer.
Spanish property for sale in Moguer includes apartments, villas and townhouses, most of them presented in a traditional whitewashed style. Some of the most sought-after Moguer property is to be found close to the river, while in other areas of the town Moguer property in need of renovation may be purchased. Further downstream, plots of land may be available on which that dream villa in Spain could be built.
