Muxia is situated in the far west of the La Coruna province in Galicia, Northern Spain. It is a small fishing town that has become increasingly popular with tourists for its quiet beaches and dramatic scenery. Muxia is a wonderful place in which to buy Spanish property if you are looking for a wild north coast location.
Muxia's position at the northern end of a large promontory of land that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean provides unparalleled views out to sea. The coastal area has been given the name of 'Costa da Morte', that when translated means the Coast of Death! It is thought that the name has arisen because of the numerous shipwrecks that have occurred around the rocky coastline down the centuries. Recently, an oil tanker ran aground here spilling its load - another ship claimed by the rocks of Muxia.
Thankfully, Muxia has recovered from this terrible ordeal, which is just as well as life in the town of Muxia itself revolves around fishing. It is home to an important fishing port which has an active fishing fleet. Many of the fine restaurants in the town rely on the local fish catch, presenting tourists and residents with an exquisite selection of tasty Spanish dishes.
Muxia's coastline really is wild and beautiful. It takes in some amazing rock formations that plunge into the sea, and sheer cliffs interspersed with sandy coves. There are also some wonderful white sandy beaches in the area, all offering an idyllic spot from which to gaze out over the ocean. Even during the summer months, the beaches are quiet.
Spanish property available for sale along Muxia's coastline is very varied. You can find luxury farmhouses, villas and chalets offering exceptional views of the sea, as well as Muxia property in need of renovation / re-build. There are also good opportunities to buy plots of land on which that dream villa in Spain could be built. In the town of Muxia itself, Muxia property includes old fishing homes along the seafront, and apartments / villas overlooking the wonderful fishing harbour.
