The vast wilderness of Northern Spain is a land of opportunity. It is mostly untouched
by mass tourism, and so remains virtually unknown to visitors from outside of Spain.
The region stretches from A Coruna on the Atlantic Coast to the heights of the
Pyrenees Mountains at the French border, and takes in some of the most upmarket
towns in Spain, including Santander and San Sebastian. Breathtaking scenery awaits
all those who venture here, along with cheap Spanish property that is ripe for
renovation.
Northern Spain property prices are in fact in the ascendancy. In the last three years,
Spanish property in the provinces of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and Pais Vasco
(Basque Country) have risen on average by more than 40%. The towns along the
Biscay Coast, including Gijon, Santander and Bilbao have a great deal of potential too
for the future.
Cantabria, in the region surrounding Santander and Bilbao, offers some of the best
opportunities to buy beautiful Northern Spain property. The area is lush, with white
beaches on the coast and the Picos de Europa national park providing scenery to die
for. Here, a renovated 3-bedroomed villa in Spain costs as little as €150,000 euros,
whilst derelict properties to renovate can be snapped up for under €60,000 euros.
