Olvera is a small district in the north-east quadrant of Cadiz province in Southern Spain. The town of Olvera, from which the area takes its name, is a mass of whitewashed buildings crowded on one of the foothills of the Cordillera Penibetica mountain range, and has become a popular location in which to buy traditional Andalucian / Spanish property in Southern Spain.
Once famed as a bandit hideaway, Olvera is a classic Andalucian town whose architecture has remained unchanged for centuries. The terraced whitewashed buildings line a maze of steep narrow streets that wind upwards to the Arabian castle and Gothic church sat on top of the hill. Most parts of the town provide breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, and take in tree covered hillsides that are laden with olives and oranges.
Despite Olvera's rural location, the small town is only an hour and a half's drive away from the city of Cadiz and the beautiful golden sands of the Costa de la Luz. It is therefore ideally situated for all outdoor pursuits, from rock climbing and hiking to windsurfing and yachting!
Olvera property is relatively inexpensive when compared to other locations in the province of Cadiz. A 3-bed townhouse in good condition may cost as little as €60,000 euros! Olvera property also provides many great renovation opportunities. Recent Spanish property available to purchase in the town included a three-floor / seven-bedroom mansion with bodega at a cost of €130,000 euros. Renovation costs were estimated to between €70,000 euros to €80,000 euros. Outside the town are plots of land overlooking Olvera, offering some ideal locations in which to build that dream villa in Spain.
