Orihuela (Oriola) is a large Mediterranean town of some 50,000 inhabitants located on fertile land to the southwest of Alicante City in Southeast Spain. The town spreads out at the base of a mountain near the main Alicante to Murcia highway and is a sea of white and ochre surrounded by orchard fields, palm groves and vines with occasional white farmsteads and small hamlets dotting the landscape. If you're looking for a town with commanding views of the surrounding lush, green countryside then Spanish property in Orihuela could be for you.
Orihuela is rich in historical buildings and monuments. Nearly every period of history since Roman times is accounted for in some shape or form within the city, and there are many fine examples of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture available to view. Standing on a mass of limestone overlooking the town is a massive palace, which offers amazing views of the town below and of the landscape leading down towards the coast.
Within the town itself there are many fine restaurants, cafes and bars, all offering a taste of traditional Spain. Orihuela is also a great place to shop, and the town is well known for its excellent sports facilities. Golfers are catered for too, with some fine golf courses being located in this beautiful area.
Orihuela offers Spanish property investors a wealth of opportunity. In the town there is a mix of Orihuela property available, including recently renovated townhouses, historic buildings dating back to the 18th century and more modern-style apartments. On the outskirts of the town - especially on the hillside climbing up above the town - buyers will find luxury Orihuela property offering exceptional views of the surrounding countryside. Amongst the palm groves and orchards to the south and east of Orihuela, property buyers may find plots of land with enormous potential to develop a large villa in Spain.
