The historic city of Pamplona is situated in Northern Spain in the province of Navarra. In the shadow of the western end of the Pyrenees Mountains, the city is most famous for the "Running of the Bulls" every July - an event given worldwide recognition by the writings of Ernest Hemingway. Aside from the bulls, Pamplona has much to offer, including 12th century architecture, modern shopping facilities and many quality restaurants, making it a great place in which to own Spanish property, either as a second home or as an investment.
The city has its roots in Roman times. Named as a rival to Julius Caesar's Pompeii in Italy, Pamplona was originally called Pompeiopolis. It has seen many conflicts down the ages, being the subject of a string of occupations by the Visigoths, Franks and Moors. Some of the most spectacular buildings in the city include the 12th century Church of Santa Maria de Eunate with its Gothic-influenced design, and the Royal Palace of Olite - one of Europe's best examples of a secular Gothic building.
Today, the city is modern and youthful. There is a good choice of well-appointed Spanish property in the city, including luxury apartments and penthouses. On the outskirts of the city buyers will find numerous opportunities to purchase a luxury villa in Spain, while Pamplona property in the rural surroundings also includes chalets, farmhouses and country mansions.
For investors looking for income property, Pamplona is a wise choice of city in Northern Spain. Popular with tourists as long ago as the 11th century, the town still attracts a good crowd of visitors throughout the year. In the week of the Bull Run, the city's population swells from around a 100,000 to close on 2.5 million, making it a great place in which to own Pamplona property to rent out to tourists.
