Pedrena is a small fishing village on a promontory of land overlooking Santander Bay in Cantabria, Northern Spain. Home to only 1,500 people, Pedrena is known worldwide as the birthplace of the great Spanish golfer, Seve Ballesteros, and as the site of the first golf course in Spain. Today, Pedrena has two magnificent golf courses and plays host to major championship competitions. If you like golf then Spanish property near Pedrena could be for you!
Pedrena's original 18-hole golf course was opened in 1928 by King Alfonso XIII, who bestowed the 'Royal' seal upon the course. For decades afterwards it was declared the best golf course in Spain, and some still say that it remains the best today. Then, in late 1991, local boy Ballesteros was chosen to design an additional 9-holes to add to the course. This was opened in 1992, and is now a much-revered challenge for amateurs and professionals around the world.
The views from the golf courses are spectacular and take in a wonderful panorama of Santander on the other side of the Bay. Santander is in fact only a 5-minute car journey away and is the city of choice for those who are considering buying Pedrena property. The whole area has really got a lot to offer Pedrena property hunters, from pure white sandy beaches and dramatic views along the coastline to superb restaurants and lively nightlife.
For investors, there is a fine selection of Spanish property on offer in Santander, including luxury apartments and penthouses overlooking the sea. In the surrounding countryside buyers may also find plots of land for sale on which they can build their dream villa in Spain.
