Situated on the main route between Alicante and Villena in Eastern Spain are the twin towns of Petrer and Elda. Separated from each other by a single road, Petrer is the easternmost and smallest of the two urban areas, registering a population of around 28,000. Petrer is only a half-hour drive from the wonderful beaches along the Costa Blanca coastline, and so has become a popular town in which to buy Spanish property, whether it be a holiday home, retirement home or investment property.
Petrer is essentially a quiet town that is off the popular tourist track. Its main visitor attraction is the castle which sits atop a rocky outcrop overlooking the town. The castle has in fact been carefully restored and is now the best example of its type in the province of Alicante. Around the base of the castle, traditional whitewashed Mediterranean buildings can be found.
The climate in Petrer is exceptional all year round. The region receives over 300 days of sunshine each year, while temperatures soar up to 35°c or more during the summer months. Wintertime temperatures are a little cooler than along the coast, making for some chilly nights.
Petrer property available to purchase mainly consists of apartments and villas on the outskirts of the town. In the more historic areas, such as near the castle, Petrer property for sale is scarcer. Outside the town in the surrounding countryside, Spanish property includes plots of land on which that dream villa in Spain can be built.
