Nestled in a sandy bay amidst the barren mountains on the Costa Almeria in Southeast Spain is the ancient fishing village of San Jose. Unmistakably Andalucian in appearance, this village is increasingly popular with tourists and those looking to buy Spanish property in the province of Almeria.
San Jose is a very small village. There are no more than a couple of hundred inhabitants that remain in San Jose all year round, making it quiet even during the height of the summer. Many of the streets in the village are covered in sand and there's always plenty of room on the small beach around the bay.
By night, the fish restaurants, cafes and bars around the marina are the main focal points in the village. Locals and tourists sit out in the warm night air and enjoy fine wines and traditional Spanish cuisine, much of which is based around each day's fish catch.
There are no high rise apartment blocks in San Jose and no big hotel complexes. The majority of tourists stay in self-catering apartments and villas that climb up the hillside and around the bay. Every building in San Jose has a view of the sea!
San Jose property within the village is very exclusive. Few properties in the village come up for sale, making it a real challenge to buy Spanish property in the main village area. On the outskirts of the village though and further up into the hills, San Jose property can be purchased for renovation. Prospective buyers may even find an ideal piece of land on which to site their dream villa in Spain.
