Setenil (Setenil de las Bodegas) is a small Andalucian village located in the mountains to the north of Ronda in the province of Cadiz. Typical of a pueblo blanco it is a collection of whitewashed buildings crowded around winding narrow streets. However, Setenil is a bit different to many other Andalucian villages as a good number of its gleaming white buildings are built into the rock face. These 'cave homes' provide Setenil with a 'uniqueness' that appeals to tourists and Spanish property hunters alike.
Although visited by tourists, Setenil is not really a tourist village. There is only a handful of tourist-oriented shops found here and currently there is no hotel, although this will change in 2005 when the one existing hotel in the village re-opens following renovation. With the absence of mass tourism the village remains a calm and relaxing place to be throughout the day, enabling those who come here to fully enjoy Setenil and its beautiful surroundings.
In the village, townhouses, apartments and villas make up the majority of Spanish property offerings here. Occasionally, Setenil property buyers may have the opportunity to buy a cave home - but these occasions are very few and far between. If you want to buy a villa in Spain in a quiet mountain location where you can experience traditional Spanish life, then Setenil property could be just what you are looking for!
