The island of Tabarca is situated some 10 miles south of Alicante on the Costa Blanca, close to the Cap de Santa Pola, in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a very small island - total land area is only 30 hectares - and it boasts just one fortified village and harbour. If you're looking for an exclusive location in which to purchase Spanish property, the island of Tabarca must surely be it.
The majority of Isla Tabarca is a mass of green vegetation. There are no roads on the island as such, and therefore no cars. Access to the island's more remote areas is accomplished on foot or by boat. By foot, it only takes 30 minutes to walk from one end of the island to the other! Tabarca Island is also very flat, and so offers views of the sea and mainland Spain at every point.
Fishing and tourism are the main activities catered for on the island. The ferry from Alicante brings many tourists to the island during the summer, and it also maintains a regular service for locals on the island during the winter. There are several quality restaurants on Tabarca in which the exquisite local fish dishes can be sampled, and the beaches, coves and transparent waters make for a memorable stay for all who visit this tiny island.
Tabarca property available for sale is scarce. There is little development on the island, so finding that plot of land on which you can build your dream villa in Spain may prove challenging. Townhouses, apartments and villas are the main types of Spanish property available on the island, but whichever Tabarca property you choose you are assured of living in one of Spain's most select locations.
