Totana is a Mediterranean market town situated beneath the hills of the Sierra Espuņa Natural Park in Murcia, Southeast Spain. Home to some 25,000 inhabitants it offers tourists and prospective Spanish property buyers a picturesque inland location in which to experience traditional Spain in all its glory.
The main attraction of Totana is its geography. Mountains, valleys, forests and waterfalls combine to offer a unique countryside experience, while only being a half-hour drive away from the golden sands of Mazarron on the Costa Calida coastline. The town is a perfect base for adventure activities, whether it be rock climbing, caving or parascending, as well as providing water sports alternatives at Mazarron or nearby Aguilas.
Totana itself is an historic and atmospheric town. It is packed full of wonderful Moorish, Gothic and Renaissance-style architecture, and takes on a very medieval feel in places. Indeed, the town plays on this, holding an annual medieval market and related festivities. There are also many fine restaurants, bars and entertainment venues around the town, as well as numerous shops and a couple of supermarkets.
