The province of Valladolid occupies a central position on the vast Tierra de Campos plains in Castilla y Leon, Northern Spain. Chiefly comprised of gently rolling fields, forests and agricultural land, Valladolid offers a taste of historical Spain to all those who are looking to buy Spanish property in the area.
The climate in Valladolid is very different to areas around the coast. During the summer the plains can become very hot, with temperatures exceeding 40°c on the hottest of days. During the winter, the weather is cool and sometimes wet. It is not unusual for snow to lie on the ground on the coldest winter days here.
The capital of the province is the city from which the province takes its name. Valladolid City is essentially a modern industrial centre. Most of the region's heavy industry is to be found in this sprawling city, along with one of Spain's most respected universities and a wealth of commercial and leisure amenities. Behind the modern-day Valladolid though lies its historic heart. Palaces, churches and a cathedral are all situated within the city's old quarter, along with many fine Renaissance-style buildings.
In the surrounding area there resides many historic towns and villages. Penafiel in the east of the region is a magnificent 14th century fortified town that stands beneath one of the most breathtaking castles in Spain - ideal if you are looking to buy some historic Spanish property. Out in the countryside, Valladolid property buyers have ample opportunity to find isolated farmhouses and fincas across the plains, as well as derelict Valladolid property that could be renovated or rebuilt into that dream villa in Spain.
