On the southern cusp of Catalonia is the small historic city of Vilanova i la Geltru. It is located some 45kms south of Barcelona on the Costa Dorada coastline and boasts five large sandy beaches, and more than 300 days of sunshine, making Vilanova a popular place in which to buy Spanish property.
Of the beaches in Vilanova, the Platja Llarga de l'Ibersol is the largest and most frequented. During the summer months it can become quite crowded with tourists, but during the winter it is generally quiet. As you would expect in a top class tourist resort, all of the beaches have numerous facilities such as showers, bars and water sport outlets.
The city itself is known for its intense calendar of celebrations. Hardly a week goes by without a parade or celebration of some kind - the city's main fiesta in August being the highlight of the year. Vilanova is also packed full of monuments and museums that pay homage to the city's extensive past. The Victor Balaguer museum is a 'must see' for tourists and locals alike.
Spanish property is available to purchase in many locations around the city and in more rural locations outside of it. Within the city Vilanova property consists of apartments, townhouses, semi-detached properties and villas. Vilanova property with sea views are naturally more sought after than those without. Plots of land on which to build that dream villa in Spain can be found further inland towards the town of Vilafranca del Penedes.
